The Hans Stockmar Company was founded in northern Germany in 1922, and initially offered beekeeping supplies and candles. Over time, and in cooperation with Waldorf school art teachers, the company developed many other products, including our popular modelling beeswax, wax crayons, water colour paints and decorating wax.
STOCKMAR products are known around the world for their adherence to high pedagogical, artistic, social and environmental standards.

The heart of STOCKMAR's product development is based around supporting the sensory development of the child, as understood by Rudolf Steiner. This extends to the colour selection, which is based on the extended version of Goethe's "Theory of Colors" and the STOCKMAR Colour Harmony across the range of products.
2022 marked the 100 year celebration of STOCKMAR. 100 years of providing the world with high quality art materials, built on the harmonious interplay of colour, centered on the child and never loosing sight of the importance of the environmental and the social worlds.
To mark this occasion, STOCKMAR released a Special Edition Rainbow Anniversary Tin which includes six rainbow coloured stick crayons and two celebratory gold and silver block crayons.
If you have followed the STOCKMAR journey over the years, you may have fond memories of the STOCKMAR Horse and the rainbow colours. If not, you might be interested to find out the story behind the horse, the rainbow and the selected colours, all steeped in meaning, which as those who know, is one of the signatures behind everything STOCKMAR does.
Looking back over the 100 years of STOCKMAR, from strong foundations, many threads are visible. The importance put on the preciousness of beeswax, using just enough and never too much, the production of the highest calibre art supplies, the exacting selection of raw materials, the specialised manufacturing processes and the colouring and painting qualities of the finished products.
Yet perhaps what sets STOCKMAR apart the most, is the continued striving, to ensure all STOCKMAR products have a positive impact and enhance the abilities of the people using them. Beyond all else, the healthy development of the person using the STOCKMAR products is central in the development of all STOCKMAR's products.

STOCKMAR Block Crayons, ideal for big movements in little hands. In bigger hands, the Block Crayons can be used in many drawing and colouring techniques, with interesting effect.
The size and flat shape of our STOCKMAR Block Crayons sit easily in the hand of small child. Little children are still grasping and have yet to develop the finger agility needed for the pencil grip. With the Block Crayon, children create colorful drawings easily, moving in big movements across the page.
As they explore and skills develop, the different edges and surfaces of the crayon offer new possibilities. Different effects are created by drawing with the corners, flat surfaces and edges. An example is to drag the long edge of the block across the paper to creates wave-like strokes.
Not just for the young child, the STOCKMAR Block Crayons grow as artistic skills develop. Shading and landscapes become possible for the older child (and adult), with seamlessly blended backgrounds, layering and transparent colours. The possibility of layering and mixing on paper is a special characteristic of all STOCKMAR crayons - layers build up, to create two-dimensional drawings with no smudging of intermediate colours and layers.
One of the best things about our STOCKMAR Wax Blocks is their durability and hard-wearing nature. Transferring colour to paper, while maintaining an inherent hardness in the crayon, means your crayons won't wear down, and will still be going in years to come. Their toughness also means they are much harder for little toddler throwing people to break!
